A Jon S-SUPER POST-The Jesus and Mary Chain

$

(scott) Oh, hell yes, an old favorite of mine.....haven't even went through it yet, so I may have some stuff to
add later, but when we summarize the bands of the 80's, THE CHAIN has to come out near the top.......their unique combination of squalling Velvet Underground-style feedback and sludge guitar, blended with those Beach Boys type harmonies, made for one of the most identifiable sounds in rock.......great albums here, great live shows, and I'll do my own inventory and see it I have anything to add (It's possible)......

This is yet another of the well done, comprehensive, and so incredibly valuable to the readers posts that comes from Jon S, when he puts one together, NO ONE can contend with him.......SOOOO many great posts, and this is simply another one!

Like the band's obnoxious followers used to chant in the 1980's, "HEY, Man, NOBODY touches THE CHAIN!")........some fab stuff here, I will say that this was a band with some really BAD material as well, so pick and choose......."Psychocandy" (especially) and "Honey's Dead" are good starting points, but there really IS a LOT of great material here!

Winding up a week or so worth of Rage Against the Machine stuff, today focusing on odds and ends, this
should have some interesting nuggets in here for ya.......how did everyone enjoy the live sets, I told ya they were smokin'......anyway, various types of things today, I do think you will love these as well.......continue to fight the power!

First up, a fairly obscure set of studio demos, with some not-so-well-known tracks, such as "In House Drive By:, "Microphone is the Threat" and more. Recommended for fans/completists."Live and Rare is a mish mash, mostly random live tracks, also studio versions of "Darkness" and "Clear the Lane"......again, for fans who want to hear EVERYTHING.

One of my faves is the "Collaborations" disc, the boys team up with NWA, Tool (!), Beastie Boys, Chuck D.......this is a good one, highly recommended.......I've got "Unplugged and Rare", got some good ones on it as well, kind of cool to hear such angry songs done unplugged for a change, kind of funny even. Someone gave me this one, I think, and the label is wrong, I am going to print the song titles AS THEY APPEAR on the label, keep in mind they are wrong......be great if some dedicated fan could straighten that up for us......

Finally, "Miscellanious Rarities", another grab bag, but some stuff I have nowhere else, say, "Medusa", "Free Mumia Abu-Jamal" and more........this is fine, and rare stuff, and, just to stir up trouble, I wonder if ONE person will criticize me for "promoting" thier "hateful" left wing politics (not hateful? "Bullet in the Head", huh?) when they were so quick to criticize me for posting hateful rightwingers. Answer: No, not ONE will.

I am kinda proud of this one, I think it's pretty comprehensive, and, mostly, contains a ton of great

music.......Rage  was  a great band for a short while, they were destined to combust, but in the meantime, they sure were PISSED OFF, noone could argue that.........anyone with any other Rage rarities is more than welcome and is invited to share!

(scott) good submission from Studkid here, Lou Barlow is an underappreciated performer if ever there were
one.......I posted his latest (pretty good) album in the last few days, and along comes Studkid with some more Barlow goodies that you are going to want! Personally I had no knowledge of the hardcore band Deep Wood, aparently they released but a single 7".....but hey, here it is, should be great!!!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In 82' Barlow joined Marscis in Deep Wound, a hardcore punk band. They released only a 7". Here is a disk with the 7" + live.

Try Barlows webside. Its full of lyrics, songs,VIDEOS and etc...Chaotic as hell.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(scott) Thanks a million Studkid, i LOOOOOVE this type of submission........please continue to send them at your convenience!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

well, here is some MORE Barlow from Studkid, might as well check these as well.........
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry, forgot this one

"A one-off side project with Northampton's own Lou Barlow (Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Folk Implosion, etc) Bob Fay (who joined Sebadoh right after this) and Eric Matthews, (Cardinal, solo act) this little 33RPM 7" EP was cut as a favor to a Sebadoh fan who was trying to get his small label, Sonic Bubblegum, up and running in Brighton, MA.

This has Lou Barlow's stamp all over it. Very Sebadoh-esque, just a bit weirder and angrier than your average Lou B Sebadoh material. Back when Lou was in Dinosaur Jr, his lyrical contribution to the band was mostly bloodcurdling angry screams. The sensitive and quieter side of Lou came out with Sebadoh, and early on, he seemed willing to let Eric Gaffney play the role of the band's screaming psychotic. Belt Buckle seems to be an outlet for the pissed-off Lou that got left behind. Thankfully, he doesn't revert back to his old screaming ways. Instead, he writes these twisted and humorously dark little songs. StandoutTRACKS are "Judas Suicide" and "Mary Hair". Pretty sure I picked this up at Main St. Records shortly after it was released.

A: Judas Suicide, Pocket Skylab Love
B: Mary Hair, Girl Who Reads
                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          "

His Scott -

JonderREQUESTED this show in the comments of The Jesus And Mary Chain post. Would you pass this on to him, please.

Hi Jonder -

The best I could find was an audience shot video on youtube. I've downloaded and zipped the video. Also, I broke the show down into audio tracks.

John N sent me this one, to me it rings true as hell as early 1980's new-wave pop/rock.....it's really quite good, I really enjoyed it, damn near a time trip for me.....really, this is a god album, one which I was completely unfamiliar with, but it really is cool, takes my back to the early 1980's........check it or don't, IMO this is a pretty damn good disc.

Garbage should have been one of the biggest bands of the '00's.......never did understand why they didn't
take off as I thought they would......I assume you are partially familiar, at least, and if not, I think I have about all of it here.....Garbage were Scotish Vixen Shirly Manson on vocals, keyboards, and guitars, Duke Erikson on bass, guitar, and keyboards, Steve Marker on guitar/keyboards, and Butch Vig on the drums......solid albums, solid singles, great concerts, maybe it's just me, but it never seemed that they took hold the way I thought they would, but, you just never know.......anyway, for my money, one of the best post-grunge alt bands of the era.

Interesting thing here: I have all their discs on CD (I think)......while I was looking around for rare stuff, I noticed that Pirate Bay had some other versions of the albums (Japanese, Australian, etc)my aim here (hope it works) is to reconstruct the albums, adding any additional tracks from those special releases......I hope this works alright, if not, I'll do it another way. Anyway, this was/is a great band, and if Shirley Manson needs a bed to lie down in for a few nights, I'm sure I could find a spot for her.

Good albums, surprisingly, to me, I don't seem to have any boots.......anyone? It'd be pretty cool to add some live muwsic to this stack (I saw them live once and they were fab!)......anyway, here is what I have for ya:

A john N submission, I found it quite enjoyable (on carpet bomb listening)....I think this might be their first "official" release, but I find it to be really good..."Time Will Pass" was a 2016 release, so you KNOW what that means, if you want to hear this one, you might wish to act quickly, cause, you never know......as for the music, well, it's pretty fucking good......there is some serious retro-1960's cool as hell psych here, I was surprised by how much I liked it, you may be as well........a solid album, hope you investigate it!

(scott) This is a bad-ass share right here, Max Pain & The Groovies are not a fucking joke.("Ancient Grease" is the album title)......excellent rock n roll, and, at the end of the day, isn't that why ALL of us are here for, anyway? Fine album, a John N contribution, and I hope you listen to it........it's damn good!

Capital Letters were a reggae band out of Wolverhampton, England and were one of the main players in theSmoking My Ganja' became one of the best selling reggae records of 1978.  Jerry Dammers of the Specials has said that hearing Smoking My Ganja convinced him that the Specials sound would work.
distinctive homegrown British roots reggae scene that emerged in the late 70's. The Sound of Capital Letters is deep roots-UK style. Championed by influential BBC DJ John peel, Capital Letters breakthrough single '

Headline News, was one of the more critically acclaimed reggae records of 1979 with its finely balanced blend of African, Jamaican, and English influences and songs that covered topics ranging from religion to marijuana legislation to the reign of Idi Amin.

After Headline News, Capital Letters released -Vineyard, a classic sounding UK roots style album.  The band also released 'Bread and Water'an EP, a ska flavored quartet of tracks which saw the light of day in 1980-a nod to the 2-Tone scene that was taking place in the UK at the time.

This band should have been as a well known reggae UK band as Steel Pulse or Aswad but for one reason or another just didn't get those breaks that a band needs to propel them forward.

(scott) Last time he sent me stuff I was so thrilled about it, I accidentally called him "Lewdd", who is, of
course, another longtime contributor, I blame senility, drug abuse, and just plain old intellectual inferiority.......at least old Zigzag was cool about it, because, this is a treat.....Garbage has always been one of those bands that I like a lot, but have been able to find VERY few quality boots from......hopefully, these hit the spot, if not, Shirley Manson should have to come to my home and explain to me exactly why not (allow a couple hours Baby).........thanks a ton to Zigzagwanderer, REALLY looking forward to these.......like I said before, imo one of the most underappreciated alt bands of the '00's......

Lowrider/I Are Droid-GREAT submission from Studkid

$
0
0
(scott) my young foreign stoner/hard rock correspondent Studkid comes up with some amazing stuff from
time to time, this is another one......both of the bands here I am somewhat familiar with, as I remember, they (especially Lowrider) are fucking excellent.......his description does it all justice, I basically agree with his evaluation pretty much 100%......I Are Droid really DOES have a heavy-arena rock sound to them, what I have heard is pretty great as well, so this is one LOADED post, "look out you rock n rollers" as David Bowie said once, there is PLENTY of good hard-ass killer rock n roll in this share. Thanks to Studkid who ALWAYS comes through with some amazing stuff, usually of the hard-rocking variety (which is my fave in case you haven't picked up on that!)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of all time best stoner record is for me Lowriders: Ode to Io. A tight hard melodic and popish stoner, and sadly the only one from them +a split with Nebula. The last 4 years they have played some concerts, where they was asked if new material is coming, and it seems to be next year. Can't wait.

When Lowrider run out of steam, founder/bassist Bergstrand still was writing songs.
In 2005 he run into a oldCHILDHOOD FRIEND, and with him these songs came to life.

I Are Droid - I Are Debut (2008): https://mega.nz/#F!GwREEB5a!CjLVczT-E0alcfUCIOUv9w

I Are Droid - The Winter Ward (2013): https://mega.nz/#F!j5xV2J5B!IjJNxRDkOf0bTa-v_9pS_A

I Are Droid is not stoner, but alternativ rock. The sound is so big, that I would call I Are Droid for Arena rock.

Shana Falana

$
0
0
(scott) I always do like to include something that I have never heard before (and as long as John N is in my
corner, I should never run out of stuff like that).....Shana Falana is a New York Shoegaze band that I found pretty interesting based on this new album (2016, "Here Comes the Wave").......you know my rap about new albums, so beware, etc, but this is worth your time.....a sort of heavied-up Mazzy Star, perhaps, hypnotic, trippy songs, I like the entire album quite a good deal........hope you do to, but this one gets filed in the memory bank for when I consider my year end top 20 albums.......yes, I think it might be worthy, although, to be honest, there have been a shit-ton of good albums that have come out this year......all you gotta do is LOOK FOR EM, and THIS, my children, is the place to search!

HERE COMES THE WAVE-01 Shaanadaar Bacche/02 Cool Kids/03 Cloudbeats/04 You Did/05 Where R U/06 Lie 2 Me/07 Brainy Fox/08 Castle Kids/09 Ocean/10 Cool Kids (single version)

Just listened to the whole thing while writing this........tremendous album, to me, this is the sound of rock n roll in the 2010's........maybe that's just me, but this is a damn good album, and rock n roll is NOT dead, again, you gotta LOOK FOR IT, and the place you look? Right here, children, right here!

A deluxe Reissue of a classic 1990's release

$
0
0
(scott) sent to me from the archive of John N, yes, Oasis'"Be Here Now" was on of the classic albums of
the 90's......here it has been released in a deluxe three disc version, actually haven't checked it out yet, but I DO know that this is a classic album and bonus tracks, etc, are going to be welcome.......let's just all be careful and not mention this bands name, as they have a rep of being somewhat of dicks.......but until then, it'll be here until, well, it's not here any longer.....a great band they were, for a short while (I consider "What's the Story Morning Glory? to be their ultimate, it's a fabulous album (is IT out in deluxe? I don't know), but "Be Here Now" is damn near as good.......this was a brilliant band whose drug habits and whatever other issues destroyed them creatively, but they absolutely put out a few albums that rocked the mid-90's like a MOTHERFUCKER......and we ALWAYS love fleshed out/deluxe versions of the classics, at least I do......on this one, I would recommend acting quickly, this band seems kind of like the sort of pricks that would whine about stuff like this (even though their moment is over and they ought to be GLAD  for the publicitiy, but nevermind)........so here it is, it's great, and I can't emphasize enough, I'd act quickly if I were interested.

Frustration

OK, I'll admit I don't know this band, sounds like I should, but I don't......this is the third album from the French punk combo Frustration......it's pretty decent, fairly standard punk rock......as with the French punk bands, synthesizers are fairly prominent, but it does rock, and you may like it......no classic or anything, but everything doesn't have to be. Worth a spin for punk fans. Thanks to John N for this submission.

(scott) this was a submittal from John N, (SUBTITLE:  American Teenage Garage Hoot! 1965-1967)......there are, I guess, also a few differences from the first release, which are summarized HERE:

NOTE:  These links contain the individual full-on LPs with all tracks from each of the 8 LPs except for Vol. 5, which I don't have separately, and only have as the compilation 2-disc combo when the company reduced Vol. 5 by 2 songs to allow Vols. 5 & 6 to fit onto a single CD.  The two missing songs from Vol. 5 are track 7, Purple Virus - "The Law of the Jungle," and track 15, The Fatigues - "Rooftops," which, based on youtube listens, were probably the least of the songs.  Regardless, there are 120+ ace slabs here.

Great fucking stuff on here, just stellar.......a good companion piece to the "Garage Fuzz" series we've been posting of late........again, ANOTHER great submmittal from John N, the lord of the link universe........everyone here oughta LOVE this one, here are the track breakdowns by album:

Simply a tremendous set, almost complete obscurities... as I said before, consider it a companion to my on-going Garage-Fuzz posts, this stuff is PURE FUCKING GOLD, and I hope everyone appreciates it.....Nugget rock is the FUCKING SHIT, and thanks to John N 1000000x over for this one, it is fantastic.....nearly EVERYONE out there would want this, I'd think, this is one of those "don't ask me for this in three years" things, it's here, NOW, get it, this is phenominal music!

Yes, a bit late for Halloween, BUT this is a great post

(scott) I "borrowed" this one from the fab "Paradise of Garage Comps", run by one of my favorite cavemen from Italy (!).....I just noticed the other day that he put together this AMAZING Halloween comp, aand I just HAVE to put it up, you guys will thank me, trust me.......TONS of great tunes here, if it is seasonally-inappropriate, download it anyway and we'll drag it out next year, cause Caveman put some work into this one, he's a badass, and this collection is also fucking badass.......DO NOT MISS IT, and DO NOT ASK ME FOR IT years after my death.......just fucking get it now, you will fucking LOVE it it is fucking FAB.....
