The best El Diablo post ever

A friend of the blog recently asked about El Diablo (I'd point out whom but I can't find it in all the clutter right now)......happy to oblige, because I think El Diablo are (were?) a unique spacey power rock trio, which does show through their Mexican roots.....as with many foreign stoner bands, information is either scant, or in a language I don't read, so it's hard for me to impart too much info, other than the music, so to quote the recently blogged Joe Perry, we'll just let THAT "do the talking"

The band consists of Ivan Nieblas (Guitar/vocal), Fernando Benitez (drums) and Vic Santillan (bass)...best I can tell is they released their fine self titled debut album in 2000, something like a Mexican version of something between Hawkwind and Pink Floyd, maybe.....long, spacey, trippy tracks with long, weird instrumental passages, and of course titles like "A Mind Bender (Liquid Skies II")....VERY sporadic vocals, and those are often simply for effect, not unlike an additional instrument and often sounding like someone in the third day of a bad quaalude hangover, highly recommended and not really like anything else. For south-of the border stoner rock I will take the absolute masters, Argentina's Los Natas, every time (GOTTA do a mega-post on them sometime soon), but El Diablo have some quality stuff as well.

Now, evidently around the same time they released an independent collection of live tracks and demos and the like entitled "The Devil Made me Do it".....seemingly it is nearly impossible to locate (It's HIGH on my wish list if any of you would happen to have one), and includes a track that I MUST hear before I die entitled "(Hats Off To) Egar Broughton" (hmmmm, REALLY gotta do an Edgar Broughton mega post sometime soon as well)......anyway, I have seen or heard a trace of this album, any leads would be appreciated.

Now, in 2001 they released "Paradise Mescaline"somewhat similar to the debut and without question worth hearing also......I recommend these highly to, well, anyone who happens to be reading this, obviously you are the type who wishes to expand his/her horizons.

Well, here's what I'm gonna do, since I don't have that 2nd album.....I found a comp track that appears on niether of the other two albums on "Stoner Rock Mexicano", so why don't I just instead of putting up only that ONE track, just put up the whole comp? Some strange and enjoyable stuff on there.

Hard to find information on this band as well.....I see some evidence that they MIGHT have other releases, EP's and possibly even other full-lengths, if any of you know anything about that, please contact me so we can share......until then enjoy these, muy bueno stuff (my cleverness NEVER takes a holiday)
