BETTY FORD CENTER

Ca. 2009 brings us the Betty Ford Center's "Poison For You", apparently an attempt to be as obnoxious as can be. I love it.  Lots obnoxious song titles ("Paris Hilton Up Your Ass" certainly brings a smile)......not to be taken especially seriously, just some noxious semi-punk that if you close yer eyes you may see the Distillers! A worthwhile album for you lowlifes!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Betty Ford Center was formed in July 2005. Shortly afterwards, they won four national contests, including the ”Heineken Jammin’ Festival” contests, whose guests were SMASHING PUMPKINS, PEARL JAM, JULIETTE AND THE LICKS, AND MANY OTHERS.
In January they recorded and released the first demo “Enjoy the rehab”.
They appeared on the front page of several local and national newspapers, acclaimed for their outstanding originality and, at the same time, for their incendiary live performances. The band also made many beautiful gigs and got many great reviews, among which we can surely mention the one written by Carlo Pastore, VJ of “Our Noise” and "TRL", ON AIR EVERY DAY ON MTV ITALY.
As the band kept performing throughout Italy and also abroad (Belgium, Germany…) they often aired on well known tv channels and radios (including BRF, the belgian national radio...).
They were also noticed by the producer, Matteo Cifelli, who recorded “UNCOOL”, a powerful five track EP released in 2008.
Their first full lenght, “POISON FOR YOU”, produced again by Matteo Cifelli is released in 2009 under Fastermaster Records. It contains 16 tracks full of violence, sick sweetness and sensual psychosis.
THE VIDEO FOR THE SINGLE “PSYCHOVICIOUS” (YOU CAN WATCH IT HERE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nntMHU7ZOY4 ) IS INTO ROTATION ON ALMOST ALL ITALIAN MAIN CHANNELS AND BETTY FORD CENTER ARE QUITE OFTEN ON TV AS GUESTS IN SEVERAL MUSIC BROADCASTS.
AT MOMENT THEY'RE ALSO IN HEAVY ROTATION ON VIRGIN ROCK EXTREME WEB RADIO STAY TUNED!!!!

THE BOOBY TRAPS

Kick-ass girl garage rock from down under........good review to hook on here, so here ya go:

The Booby Traps are influenced by the raw fuzz sounds of garage bands from the 60s & melodies & arrangments from the girl groups of the same era. Also throw in a bit of grit & swagger from all the great RnB artists from the 50s/60s. The Booby Traps are united in their passion for all things primitive and swingin! The Booby Traps have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with The Hoodoo Gurus, The Stems, The Johnnys, The Detroit Cobras, Billy Childish & The Buff Medways, The Persian Rugs, 5,6,7,8s, The Strange Tenants, The Tremors, Intercontinental Playboys,Pink Fits, Mink Jaguar, Dolly Rocker Movement, DTS, Hell City Glamours, The Specimens, The Sailors, The Double Agents, The Groovie Ghoulies, Mach Pelican, Asteroid B6-12, Six Ft Hick, The Spazzys and many more The release of their CD "Be My Caveman" saw the Booby Traps fan base explode! A second pressing was rapidly produced after selling out their original 500 copies within a few months! The 4-track studio recording, with 5 live bonus tracks, encapsulated their raw, garage punk rock sound, a mere entrée to what was yet to come! Their full-length album has just been released in 2006. 13 new recordings, keeping true to their 60s punk roots and having switched up a gear, thrown out the manual and burnt up the track to produce a main course of fuzz-laden dance-floor stompers. Punters need not order dessert. Since The Booby Traps started in 2003 the reviews of their shows have always been favourable, highlighting the unique sounds that they have showcased to the Sydney public. Here are a few excerpts from some of these reviews Sneering Shangri-las inspired girl-group, meets the fuzz monsters from the garage. Primevil & raw, with a lead singer thats equal parts Gerry Roslie (of Sonics fame) & wild cat hillbilly. Go see em, theyre great to watch. Youll dance & shake, youll be revived. (TIMEWARP NOV/DEC 03 NEWSLETTER) The Booby Traps would have to be the hardest working garage band currently playing the Sydney circuit. Theyre great at what they do and that whole accelerator-down, chicks-with-flick knives feel that their music has, is pretty special. A Booby Traps show is always an enjoyable one. Plenty of sixties garage comin at you. Screaming, nasty vocals, warm fuzzy guitar that takes me to a time when Boss Hoss and Skinny Minny let the good times roll. Sweet melodies and drumbeats that come from the heart of all things garage. The Booby Traps were rockin and rollin and the only thing the crowd were left with were extremely sore feet. Mod escapees from a Russ Meyer flick!

The B52's are a band that at least I don't see booted that often, for some reason........they were stellar live imo, this is a VERY early set here, 1982, before "Love Shack" and all those other dance/pop gems......their early stuff was fab as well, this includes the great "Lava Lamp", (My Fave) "Dance This Mess Around" and the incredible "Rock Lobster".........really fun and underappreciated band of those wild early 80's

Early stuff from the Creatures, yet another case of an excellent male/female duo in that era, it's remarkable.... Raveonettes, Firey Furnaces, White Stripes, Mommy & Daddy, The Kills,  lots more too it really encapsulated part of the era's progression of sound toward some of todays sounds.

Thanks to John N for working hard and sending me this red hot link! BTW if unaware, the band were singer Siouxsie Siouxsie and instrumentalist Budgie from the Slits......a lot of primitive tribal stuff like Bow Wow Wow or Adam & The Ants.

The other day I posted another album by this crew, crazy Hawkwind-like space/psych, and damn good too.....well a search of their Bandcamp turns up another goodie, 2006's "And We Shall Call Him Joseph".....more of the fabulous distorted vocals and fuzzy instrumentation common in the music of this scene.......some kind of smart-guy conceptual affair going on here, soon as I figure it out we can compare notes I reckon!

1980's UK anarcho-punk from Rudimentary Peni.......been around since 1980, with tons of songs about
political issues, life/death, and other, various socio-political topics. The band were fronted up by singer/guitarist Ted Binko, bassist Grant Matthews, and drummer Jon Greville.

Soooooo, we have about 7 albums, pretty much your standard punk of the era, for the most part favorable.......reminds me most, perhaps, of Sham 69, I guess, and what could be wrong with that? OK, here is each album, broken down in case you only want one.

cool stoner/doom for your approval......as fabio points out, you can hear some Kyuss influences here, but still quite original......be sure and check the fucking fabulous "Crimson Sky", a good one!

You never know what'll you'll find when looking for something else.......who remembers early 80's power-
pop whizzes The Kids? Well, not many, judging upon the sparse amount of information available on the web in reference to them.......not much at all. However, this is a fair album, VERY typical 80's power pop, lots of synths and crunchy guitars, It's a good album, if you are a fan of that vintage 80's sound, one of the few good sounds that particular kidney stone of a decade could produce for us!

Another Fabio submission, this one some doom metal
from Italy, the "Black Magic" EP from Alastor......he attached a full review so we may as well eyeball that as well.......

If your a fan of gritty underground rock music then no matter where your searches take you, be it the rainforests of Brazil or the neon lit streets of the USA,  there is a high probability that your search for a gnarly groove will eventually bring you to Sweden. Whether it's dark dismal doom, raucous stoner, hard driving blues, swirling psych/space or growling black/death metal Sweden has a band that can deliver it.
Swedish doomsters Alastor cherrypick from these various underground genres and sub-genres, taking what they can use and discarding what they can't, blending what they've accumulated in a swirling assemblage of grizzly riffage and acid-laced groove that is wholly their own, as can be experienced on the bands debut EP "Black Magic" (Twin Earth Records).
"Enemy" is the first of the three songs that make up "Black Magic" and creeps menacingly out of the speakers on slow low wave of heavily distorted riffage supported by pulverising pounding percussion interspersed with occasional squealing guitar licks. The track slowly builds until the hazy, slightly distant and ethereal vocals appear, their haunting tones bringing an air of mysticism to the proceedings. The songs dark monolithic groove hardly deviates from it's meandering slow doom path throughout its eleven minutes (plus) span but this works to its advantage giving the song a feeling of impending danger and growing terror, akin to being chased in some 50's horror movie by a dishevelled monster, a leaden leg dragging behind it, that no matter how fast you try to run is still there lumbering malevolently just behind you.
"Nothing To Fear" lightens the atmosphere a shade and sees the band jamming a gnarly proto-doom groove replete with wah drenched guitar pyrotechnics and reverb soaked vocals. Those feeling of menace and foreboding experienced on the first track still remains but are ever so slightly diluted by the faster tempos and lightened but still effective sonic attack.
"Black Magic", a massive doom drenched opus stretched over fourteen minutes, blends elements of the two previous tracks and adds into those elements touches of swirling acid colouring. Basically a song of two halves "Black Magic" begins on a deliciously grizzled, mid-tempo, proto-doom groove over which hazy clean vocals are delivered, the singer smoothly stretching his vocal register to hit the songs higher notes, then segues, via a slow psych drenched passage of growling low bass and intricate percussion, into a pounding doom refrain with dark shards of guitar colouring reverberating with sustain around a repeated vocal mantra before finishing on a wave of screaming guitar and thunderous rhythm.
Heavy, hazy and humongous "Black Magic" is a stunning debut that will leave listeners hungrily begging for more.
