Brian's Christmas Comp

(Scott)-Here's a submission from Brian, an early Christmas present......I'm probably going to do one of my own before the blessed day, but this one is another example of the hard work that Brian typically turns in when he gets an idea for a post....I'm psyched to be going to see Sleater Kinney Saturday, was going to do some kind of a post on them (I did once, long long ago), but there are only so many hours in the day.........maybe AFTER the show, they ARE one of my all time favorite bands.
Anyway, Merry Christmas from Brian, myself, and any other members of "team-Growing Bored For a Living", and there will certainly be more to come in the next few weeks!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a holiday treat for you guys! It's a Christmas music compilation I've been assembling for the last few years. It's a great mix of the sacred and the profane. I wanted to limit this to a CD length, but had a few too many goodies for that. A few of these are m4a, while the rest are mp3s. Hope that doesn't present any problems. I want you guys to ROCK this one for the next 3 weeks! If you get to the end of this and haven't sang along, laughed, or maybe shed a nostalgic tear, I haven't done my job...

.) Weird Al Yankovic"Christmas At Ground Zero" - long one of my favorites.
.) Reverend Horton Heat "Jingle Bells" - a great rockin' instrumental.
.) Asylum Street Spankers"Trim Your Tree" - one of the more subtly filthy songs out there.
.) Bobby Helms"Jingle Bell Rock" - I always think about the beginning of Lethal Weapon...or Hall & Oates (shudder)
.) TheSonics"Don't Believe In Christmas - a great nihilistic rocker.
.) The Ronnetes"It's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" - this song is simply perfect.
.) The Vindictives"My Favorite Things" - found this one lately. Christmas ennui, anybody?
.) The Chipmunks"Christmas Don't Be Late"- yeah, that's right...
.) Patton Oswalt "My Christmas Memory" - see previous
.) The Staple Singers "Who Took The Merry Out Of Christmas?" - What would the holidays be without some soul?

.) Thurl Ravenscroft "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch" - you still know the words I bet...
.) Charlie Brown kids"Christmas Time Is Here" - this one is for my daughter.
.) Clyde Lasley"Santa Came Home Drunk" - wouldn't you?
.) Elvis Presley"Blue Christmas" - hasn't everybody had a few?
.) Bruce Springsteen"Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" - this is a great one.
.) Tiny Tim "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer" - I can't imagine anyone else singing this.
.) Run DMC "Christmas In Hollis" - I've known this song since I was 9.
.) Low"Just Like Christmas" - like so many Low songs, this is hypnotic...beautiful.

.) Arrogant Worms"Santa's Gonna Kick Your Ass" - and you just might deserve it!

.) Frank Sinatra "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" - he really was The Voice...
.) James Brown "Merry Christmas" - holiday funk... what could be better?
.) David Bowie & Bing Crosby"Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy" - an odd match, but it works!
.) The Ramones"Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight)" - don't know about you, but I've lived this one...
.) Sinead O'Connor"Silent Night" - I think this one is amazing.
.) Grandaddy"Alan Parsons In A Winter Wonderland" - weird... and funny.
.) Wham"Last Christmas" - fuck Ashley Tisdale's cover version!
.) The Flaming Lips "Christmas At the Zoo" - it's always Christmas for the Lips!
.) Mariah Carey "All I Want For Christmas" - don't be a hater... one of the only Christmas standards of the past 25 years. And it captures that whole Phil Spector feel, I think.
.) Venus Envy"It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas" - this is one of my favorites... and so true!
.) Ella Fitzgerald"White Christmas" - what, you thought I'd just put in Bing's version? Ella swings, baby!

.) South Park"Merry Fucking Christmas" - I don't have the words...
.) The Polyphonic Spree "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" - this is the perfect group for this song.
.) Weird Al Yankovic"The Night Santa Went Crazy" - the way the world is now, I keep expecting to see this one on the news!
.) Fear"Fuck Christmas" - This sums it all up in 45 seconds.
.) Monty Python"Christmas In Heaven" - from The Meaning Of Life. This is a great ending song.

BONUS MATERIAL

The Bob Dylan covers post was popular, but there is a snag or two. Between "A-C" and "W-Y", there is a difference of about 100 downloads. Maybe some people got a taste, and just figured they'd come back to it. I also realized recently that the album art I had done didn't get put with the files. So then it would look like a boring, art-less 10 volume collection. Can't have that! Included is a folder that has different cover art for each of the volumes. It looks cool in iTunes... you see the stages of Dylan's life all laid out. So, download this and head back to the Dylan post and pick up some more volumes!

Happy Holidays!
