Don't miss this hard rocking mother fucker, compliments of John N......The Hangovers' 2016 release "Take As Needed" is a badass release, for any headbangers out there (like, well, me?)......sounds like maybe the Ramones cross-bred with Motorhead, or something like that, if you can imagine......this will crush your skull, so be advised before checking this one, it's not for the kiddies.......

(scott) I am not familiar with this one, John N sends it with the zillions of great links he sends, I thought it sounded quite interesting, I guess we can all find out together....read the notes below, I personally thought it sounded like something that the crowd here might like to experience, I guess we will see......thanks John N, and here are the notes so you can decide if this is for you or not!

(scott)-this is another of those instances in which I am REALLY speechless/dumbfounded......without the
slightest bit of exaggeration, most likely this is the most comprehensive Sonic Youth collection ever assembled in one place......really. Sonic Youth has, over the years, been one of the most innovative and experimental bands out there, and this puts it ALL into perspective, believe me.....love/like Sonic Youth? Guarantee there is something here new and great for you. Hate Sonic Youth (and many do, I think most likely because of their "anything goes" approach)? Then, brother, have YOU landed in the wrong place today......what an incredible job of assembling a comprehensive post on a single, incredibly important and influential band. Thanks a million to Jon S, certainly does close up any gaps in MY Sonic Youth collection.
Sonic Youth (1982)
(scott)- What a fine bunch of contributors we have here......as discussed before, once I completed the
posting of John N's damn comprehensive Descendents' series I'd start posting these awesome Descendents boots submitted by our latest team member, Lewdd (he's been around awhile, I remember seeing his name, but these (and the punk covers sets the other day) are his first contributions......gonna warn ya, there are A LOT of these Descendents boots, and I think we'll do them a few at a time, keeping the band's fans happy while avoiding possible overkill.....Lewdd, great stuff thus far, please don't be a stranger, we ALWAYS have room for more contributions here, and stuff like this is what makes us what we are. Fine submissions, please keep it up! (btw, these boots appear in no particular order, pretty much random, so if you are looking for a specific show, keep your eyes open, it will likely appear eventually)

I have but one Muggs album, their third "Born Ugly" (2011).......it's pretty good, the Muggs were/are a Detroit based blues/metal trio, guitarist Danny Methric, bassist Tony Denardo, and drummer Todd Glass. They have released (without my looking it up) probably 4-5 albums. If you can get past the somewhat rough vocals (sort of a forced, attempted Robert Plant/Geddy Lee imitation), this rocks pretty hard, and is worth your effort......this is one of those albums that I blindly grabbed off the shelf (the "M" shelf, obviously)......too bad I have only this one, I am fairly certain I have never heard the others.
Anyway, this is a decent piece of hard rock.....Cliff does the reggae, Brian and Jonder do the amazing cover projects, Angie contributes her Pagan-world stuff, Jon S and John N contribute everything under the sun, but the hard rocking stuff? That is BigScott territory as ya should know by now.......anyway I listened to this a couple of days ago, and deemed it to be post-worthy at least, and everything I listen to does not merit that distinction. But this is a solid effort, and perhaps someone out there, another rivithead like myself, or someone from that state "up north" has some more of their work.
"Clean Break Blues" is the standout cut to me, but, really, it's all pretty good and hard rocking all the way through.......see what ya think, and if ya have any of their other trax laying around, might as well share em with us!

This just happened to sound good to me the other day, I don't terribly often post single albums from bands with multiple-album bodies of work, especially when I have little knowledge of them, but as I said, I grabbed this one, and at that point in time, it sounded damn good to me. Blusey and hard rocking.
And, hey, really........what the FUCK else matters?
As always, I maintain my soft spot/love of the hard/heavy-psych/metal of the period of approximately 1968-
73 or so......as I've said, and still maintain, the great overlooked music of this scene/era is VERY comparable to the "stoner rock" of the 2000's, ie, in that, as we are JUST NOW appreciating that great music of the early 70's, it will be a while before the greats of stoner rock are appreciated.
Anyway, I don't think I've ever posted "Overdose", the wonderfully dated and druggy sole album from Lumbee. I found this quite cool bio of the band, written by Stanton Swihart, and it sums them up better than I ever could......
So there ya go......it's not a GREAT album, but as a period piece/campy bit of rock "history", it's damn near unmatchable.....wish like FUCK I had a copy of the board game, but you can't have everything I guess.....anyway, enjoy this, it's a "trip" so to speak, and what in the world is wrong with some druggy rock from a bygone era? Hell, the early 70's were fucking paradise compared to.....well, never fucking mind.

Getting down to the end of The Doors thing, finally, tonight's Doors post, is WAY cool, it is the singles of the pre-Doors Rick and the Ravens......I've put them together in a semi-"album" kind of thing....I know The Doors thing is probably getting old to you (it is to ME), but we have only a few things left, and the Rick & th Ravens thing is a true rarity/gem. Doors fanatics, this is one you want, don't ask me for it next year when the link is long dead. If you are a huge Doors fan, likely, VERY likely you want this.......

Yep, another mistake on my part, a common occurance.....when I did the large Florence + The Machine
post a week or two ago, I had intended to assemble and post this collection of singles and EP's as part of that post......unfortunately, I FORGOT about it (that's the best excuse I can come up with).....anyway, a couple of people have pointed out that they were looking forward to it, and yes, Florence has some fine singles and the like.....so, hope the delay was worth it, here is the home-made Florence + The machine collection of Singles/EP's......it's really great, too, except that there is some overlap as I wanted to keep the EP's intact should anyone wish to separate them out.....enjoy, and again, I apologize for the delay, sometimes it feels like I got too many hot dogs in the campfire.

By the way......this file is split in two parts as it BARELY exceeds the Zippyshare 200 MB limit for an upload....this is NOT a FLAC file, if you were concerned, there is just a bit more material here than I had anticipated....anyway, if you wish for this whole thing to fit on a disc, it can easilly be done, simply program out one of the overlaps, there are a couple......anyway, I did it the way I did it, so be it......it's a good collection, I hope the fact that it's split in two parts (so many of you sometimes have problems with that) doesn't deter you from grabbing this cool, and homemade, set!
I really can't believe I've never posted this before, but I can't find any record of it.......this is SO fucking
great, that some of you will think I am losing what is left of my finer marbles......but this is one of those posts that is for "the rest of us", and you (assuming that you ARE one of "the rest of us") will bu stunned and amazed when you hear these ass-kicking radio ads (ca. 1950's) for nuclear fallout shelters! The whole thing is probably 5 minutes in length, but this is a fucking hoot no matter how ya slice it, in my book anyway.
Hey, THIS is the kid of cool shit that I wish I could trip over every day, I've had this one forever (wish I could credit the source, but I'm afraid it's long forgotten) and, maybe just maybe, this can be one of "those" post that separates "us" from the "regular folks", like the people who don't even find "Metal Machine Music" to be an all-time life changing classic (they DO exist, as amazing as that might be).......

Hey, let's be careful out there, it's a dangerous world in which we live!
Someone requested some Free Kitten in response to the epic Sonic Youth post of yesterday (THANKS again, Jon S, simply stellar.....be hard to imagine you topping THIS one, but you never fail to amaze me).....Free Kitten were a side project, consisting of Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, Julie Cafritz from Pussy Galore, Yoshimi P-We of the Boredoms on drums, and Mark Ibold of Pavement on bass....ok, that's lot of diverse talent, and I'll say off the bat, I am not crazy about these albums......they are OK, and JUST ok.....happy to share them as I am sure many haven't heard them, but at least I personally don't consider them lost masterpiees or anything.
First up we have "Unboxed" from 1994.....this is noisy, experimental stuff, the kind of stuff that Kim Gordon loves to indulge herself in (see: Glitterbest, probably still available on this very site)......."Unboxed" is a collection of early singles from the band, also the EP "Call Now"......it's, you know, OK, it breaks no new ground, reminds me a good bit of Destroy All Monsters attempts to be "the next" Sonic Youth (Destroy All Monsters would have been MUCH greater had they simply stuck to their punk approach, but I digress...)...this is pretty good, if you are a Sonic Youth diehard, you will likely enjoy this. It does include an 'interesting" cover of X-Ray Spex "Oh Bondage Up Yours!", hard to go wrong THERE.
"Nice Ass" was their first "proper" album, and it's the only one that I REALLY consider a "good" effort.......and it really is, likely 3 stars or so.....the trademarked bored-as-hell vocals are still in the foreground, but there are some interesting tunes here, I mean, this is experimental shit, BIG TIME......it's cool to listen to the totally out-there lyrics and oddball concepts, "Greener Pastures" is kinda based around the theme from Green Acres. I DO like this album, actually, a pretty fair 1990's period piece......and of the three I have here, it's the only one I would really call a "good" album (I'm saying if you only want one, it is CERTAINLY this one.
Because the next effort "Sentimental Education" does not do much for me at all.....it's a bit TOO experimental for me, I'm sure that it has it's fans, but some of it, notably the 12-plus minute title track are a bit much......still, stuff like "Scratch the DJ" is amusing, and if you want the WHOLE picture, you'll need this one as well.
All in all, not a huge fave of mine, obviously, but "Nice Ass" is a good record, and the others have their moments, most likely "bigger" Sonic Youth fans than me will consider these essential (don't get me wrong, i love Sonic Youth, but their "anything goes" approach could be brilliant OR off-putting)
Hey, I forget who requested it, I could look but I don't care.....somebody wanted it and here it is!

The Pistols released such a limited amount of material that it is damn near (deliberatly) comical (Wittness: :Flogging a Dead Horse")....anyway, ANY Pistols recordings are considered something of a treasure, I have a couple shelves full of them BUT there is so much overlap that it really is, well, flogging a dead horse......
That being said, on occasion I do like to drag out a Pistols disc, just to make certain you are still paying attention.....pretty sure I have never posted "Raw and Live", which was released officially in 2004 but contains some classic-era Pistols, and the second disc (the real 'find" here), is an "All-Sid" release......yes, we all know Sid was a no-talent sod, BUT he was REPRESENTATIVE of what the Pistols were about.......and they were 'about" NOTHING........hard to explain if you weren't there, but, damnit, we WERE there, weren't we? And anything we can salvage from those glorious mid-late 70's has GOT to be better than the world in which we currently live.....right? I mean, either Hillary Clinton or (Good GOD) Donald trump IS going to be your next President. Does that scare you? I hope so, because it should. people who dis the 1970's need a reality check when they realize the world as we know it is basically coming to an end.
Anyway, that isn't what my blog is about, it's more about MUSIC, sometimes, though, I allow reality to creep in......anyway, enjoy this set....GOD BLESS the Sex Pistols, the 1970's, marijuana from Mexico, and horny women on quaaludes who would fuck ANYONE.......is the world better NOW than it was then? You can decide, but I think you could guess MY answer.

I posted Volumes 1/2 earlier, they are way cool IMO, but I had no idea there was a Volume 3......Cliff, this
is something YOU should have told me (jk Cliff, you are the ultimate reggae authority around THESE parts!)
So, anyway, once I discovered that there IS a Volume 3, naturally I want to get it to my peeps as quickly as possible (and I am not blowing fucking smoke there, bitch.....I found out that this exists like TEN minutes ago)...with some help from what's left of Pirate Bay, why not present this to ya NOW while I wait for Madame Angela to get home from work? personally, I've long loved the first two volumes, I hope we can all get to know and love Volume 3 together, I'm as surprised as you are that it exists!

I know the track numbering is a little off (there are no tracks #6 or #9)....I don't know if they are missing or simply misnumbered, whatever, in this case you get them the way "what's left of" Pirate Bay distributes them.....so enjoy, if there are other tracks and you have them, please share so we all have the whole thing...if it's just a numbering error, so be it....as I said I just now found it, I really didn't make the effort to research the album.......it's as new to me as it is to you! Regardless, it's fairly badass........
Ill Wind was a late 1960's West Coast psych act, not the heavy psych that I love so much, but the lighter variety that was so popular in that time and place......actually, I found a really good biography on them, which is much better than I could ever write, so if you are interested, click HERE:
Much easier that way than ME trying to write something about them, doncha think? Anyway, if you skip the long, boring stuff and are just about the tunes, the track list is as follows:

(soctt), gotta say I have no knowledge of the material here, but the Sonic Youth post has been one of the most popular EVER (really), and related material (Free Kitten) seems to be going over big too......soo here's one more, thanks to Jon S, we have to be close to getting MOST of em!
I'd meant to post this along with Sonic Youth but forgot. Its loud and shitty but in a good way.
From Philadelphia, we have Beach Slang, with their album "A Loud Bash of Teenage Feelings"......I know them slightly, I know they have had some well-regarded EP's.....anyway, I carpet bombed their debut full length, it is pretty good damn good (if you LIKE buzzing guitars, tortured vocals, and machine gun rhythms.....I do recommend this, ESPECIALLY to people that say there is no good rock being released anymore....I try to put fine examples of good NEW rock up here at least weekly, alongside the classics, etc......there IS good rock n roll coming out these days, and Beach Slang are among the practitioners.....
A LOUD BASH OF TEENAGE FEELINGS-01 Future Mixtape For the Art Kids/02 Atom Bomb/03 Spin the Dia/04 Art Damage/05 Hot Tramps/06 Punks In a Disco Bar/07 Wasted Daze of Youth/08 Young Hearts/09 The Perfect High/10 Warpaint
The review/description that john N sent along seems to say it all and be quite informative, so if you wish to read it click here:
The music file is in the comments section. As always, with new releases, ya NEVER know, so if interested, maybe act quickly......often bands of this variety are happy for the exposure, but every once in a while ya get one, and, as policy, ONE COMPLAINT and it is removed no questions......so trust your instincts.
Another newer contribution from John N comes from Montreal psych outfit Elephant Stone.....this is album #4 for them, and I enjoyed it enough that I would accept offers to post the other three, just to say I've heard them....it's really quite good, as modern-day psych CAN BE (I know, when it's BAD, it's, well......)
The track "Manipulator" is a good one, but there are another gem or two waiting for you should you venture here.
SHIP OF FOOLS-01 manipulator/02 Where I'm Going/03 Cast the First Stone/04 Photograph/05 See that Light/06 Run Sister Run/07 Love Is Like a Spinning Wheel/08 Andromeda/09 The Devil's Shelter/10 Silence Can Say So Much/10 Au Gallis
I'd take the chance on this one, psych fans, quite an enjoyable buzz.......
Well, John N sent me this recent release from I Am Thief.....I have never heard of them, AND I don't think the album "Great Expectations" is that great either.......not BAD, but no future classic for sure. However, what are we doing here anyway? Well, I do WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT (That is my "Concept/format")......This album did little for me BUT I don't have at this moment a whole lot of guest submittals, so I AM going to put this one up as well, as some of you most likely will enjoy it.......pretty basic, mid tempo semi-hard rock, in my book, can't even think of anything to compare it to, but it IS listenable, just not one that struck me as an immediate "good one".......hey dive in, that is why we be here, motherfucker.
GREAT EXPECTATIONS-01 Time and Place/02 Don't Wake Me/03 Steps/04 Into Space/05 Pride/06 Way Down Inside/07 Eyes/08 Different/09 Here I Am/10 Change
Decent enough listen, no future classic here, i'm afraid but EVERYTHING doesn't HAVE TO BE!
Yep, November is a fave of mine since forever, brilliant hard-meal/prog from the great land of Sweden......I posted these four albums a couple of years back, I assume they are long gone, but these albums are so great they need to live forever...November was a spectacular band, If I was wanting to earn "Cute Points", I likely would have waited until the calendar actually struck November (I'm guessing I did that last time, forgive me, I knew not how stupid it sounded)......but I challenge you, flat out, to tell me that November is not a total kickass, slamming, banging, prog/metal band.......oh you don't like the non-English vocals? Well, we've been down that road...I LOVE EM....lets the music do the talking, and November have some brilliant music in their catalogue.
The first album, "En Ny Tid Ar har", which features the brilliant "Mount Everest".....at the minimum this is a 4 star album, brilliant playing, rocking hard as fuck, AND wonderful Swedish vocals......do NOT allow non-English language rock n roll deter you, as I have warned you before......this shit is among the great hard rock album of the early 70's, which is saying something.
The second release, 1971's "2:a November" is every bit as good...I'll tell you this band sat perfectly between the metal/pre-stoner rock of the early 70's AND the remarkable Krautrock that dominated the era to a degree.....yes, this album is remarkable too.
Next they released "6:e November", which is a gem as well.......rocks like fuck as well, does not skip a beat from the previous releases......NOT singing in English cost this band greatly, as they COULD HAVE BEEN one of the all time greats, and, in my book, they are anyway.......I cannot stress how much you Yanks (I am one too ya know) need to disregard the non-english lyrics, that is the ONLY thing that provided a barrier for them......
One of the great hard rock bands of all time......I tried once before to get the audience in tune with them, well, I am trying once again.......one of the great hard rock bands of them all, PLEASE do not miss, sand PLEASE do not ask me about it in 2018.........

This is one of my favorite bands, EVER, please check out, become familiar, and DO NOT DISS (well, if you really WANT TO ya can), but seriously, one of my favorite bands of them all, they were great, and if you check them out, PLEASE tell me how "right" I am.....this is GREAt fucking music, DO NOT be put off by the non-english vocals,,,,,,,ALL of these are "must haves" if you love the same hard/heavy rock that i do.........
As I said at the time of my posting Jon S' amazing original Sonic Youth post, I thought that it was
perhaps the greatest colletion of Sonic Youth material ever assembeled anywhere....now, in stating that i really WANS'T making that statement in the context of "wow, I wonder if this is tht greatest collection of Sonic Youth material ever assemeled anywhere?" Rather it was just a flip comment,
but consider the Free Kitten and Harry Crews that have been up since and now THIS????????? Well, I'd sure like to see the more comprehensive Sonic Youth collection than what we have here now.
As far as I know, Lorcanwhite has not contributed here in the past, if he has, I'm sorry......but, according to him, he's been hoarding Sonic Youth singles, EP's, oddities forever and he has quite a stack.....well, indeed he does. It's taken me a while to download it, but I have it now, to share with you, and it is so vat and varied that i'm going to have to break it up into probaby 4-5 posts, but since the other Sonic Youth stuff has been so successful, I am sure you diehards will want these too.......
Thanks to Lorcanwhie, great share, and if you have anything else of interest, PLEASE DON'T BE A STRANGER.....this blog THRIVES on the contributions of great people like your self, who actually LEARNED the lessons of "sharing" as a child. Amazing how few did....
The sections will be titled Lorcanwhite's Sonic Youth Supplement, Part ___, don't get confused, boy-0, but this one will serve as "part 1"! So I know you all been diggin the "Yout'", and look forward to comments on these (mainly are you as stunned as me that there is SO MUCH MORE stuff available than the original posts here.....Well, at various times in the past, The Doors, Throbbing Gristle, The Descendents (now!), and a couple of more have taken over the blog for a short time, when there is a good buzz about someone.....seems to be with Sonic Youth, and I'm happy to presnt more.
By the way these files appear in NO particular order, just keep watching them if you are waiting for something specifdic. Hope ya like, I got a couple more things for today, may take tonight/tomorrow off (Ohio State-Okalhoma tonight, and the VIKINGS first game in thier new stadium vs. Green bay tomorrow night! My son is supposed tomorrow, so unless he has something for me to post, it may be clear til Monday. Hope I've lft you enough stuff to keep you half-amused until then. Probably a couple more things today, though, so all is well, I hope..
